Just to give an idea of how far those eagles were away this photo was taken with my 400mm lens. That is approx. 8x life size.

This shot was taken through my telescope (equivalent to a 1250mm lens at f/10). That is approx. 25x magnification. Note the donuts in the out-of-focus highlights.

Focussing was no fun whatsoever because the image in the viewfinder was quite dim..

This one was taken with a barlow lens (effectively a 2x teleconverter) making the scope effective 2500mm F/20. That is approx. 50x magnification!

Heron Flying
Shot from Bill's canoe on the Mississippi last fall. I used a 300mm lens at f/5.6 and shutter around 1/250 due to lack of light. The blur is due to camera shake still you get the idea. The herons out here on the west coast are much tamer.

It was actually fairly late in the day so I had to use the flash. It didn't seem to bother the bird at all. Pentax Mz-5N and Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro with Pentax AF200T flash unit.
