Purshia tridentata (Antelope brush). A low, deciduous shrub belonging to the Rose family. Commonly found on arid slopes and desert ranges. Important food source for browsing animals.

Prickly Pear Cactus and Grass
I shot this one to provide some scale for the little Prickly Pear cactus but it's not so obvious how small they are even from this shot.

PricklyPear
This cactus belongs to the Genus Opuntia (Family Cactaceae). I don't know the species. Believe it or not it is edible (removing the spines first is suggested). These were growing in little patches everywhere. Each of those lobes is about the size of a thumb.
